The Duc d'Orléans Breguet Sympathique, World's Most Expensive Clock

Recently sold for the astounding amount of $6.8 million U.S. Dollars, the Duc d'Orléans Breguet Sympathique is now the world’s most expensive clock. The Duc d'Orléans Breguet Sympathique was developed in 1835 by horologist Abraham-Louis Breguet, and there is only a dozen Sympathiques in existence to this date. It is a rare piece, and is known to have made Abraham-Luis Breguet a famous French horologist. These Sympathique clocks were custom-built by famous royals, like Napoleon, King George IV of the United Kingdom, as well as Spanish and Russian royalty. This Sympathique was sold by the Time Museum in Illinois in 1999 at a price of $5,777,500 U.S. Dollars. The Duc d’Orléans Breguet Sympathique is the only clock known to wind, set time and regulate using a special frame that was mounted on its pediment.
