Luxury Trains: El Transcantábrico Gran Lujo

To most people, a passenger trains are a thing of the past. There are much faster and practical ways to get to your turistic destiny, like a plane or car, or even a fast train. But none of these modes of transportation have been able to substitute the charm and romance of traveling in a luxurious vintage car while enjoying the view and some of the most delicious food and wine. The Transcantabrico Gran Lujo (Great Luxury in Spanish) offers such experience to those with a big wallet. Inspired by the first Oriental Express from 1883, El Transcantabrico emerged in 1983, as Spain's first passenger train. It was such a popular way to travel the North of Spain, from Leon to Santiago de Compostela, that a more exlusive and expensive train, the Transcantabrico Gran Lujo was created in 2011. This is an out of this world experience for 28 lucky passengers to go from San Sebastian to Santiago de Compostela, while stopping at beautiful and historic cities, castles, museums, etc. The menu on board is composed by very traditional Spanish gourmet cuisine, from Galicia, Asturias, Cantrabria, Castilla y Leon and the Basque Country. Passengers will enjoy fish, seafood, beef, sausages and cheese marinated with the best Spanish wines. The train has fourteen Deluxe Suites, with one or two beds, computer with Wi-Fi access, videogames, a flat screen and a luxurious bathroom with a sauna and hydromassage tub.
